Spirit on the Mountain Festival

It was early to rise and off to Dustin's house for me this Saturday morning! Our sound technician (artiste) Will, Dustin, and I carpooled to Portland's far east-side to board the RESCUE rig. The Spirit on the Mountain Christian music festival is held in a little resort near Mt. Hood. It is the second year of the festival which was designed to bring people from many different area churches together around the common ground of worship and Christian music.

We started setting up our equipment at 8:30 a.m. and after we were finished we shared some breakfast and spent the day rehearsing and talking and just relaxing. They furnished us with a small cabin where we chatted about new program, comedy and staging ideas.

One of our faithful prayer team members Bekah, who we met at the Cannon Beach Conference Center, was flying out of Portland for a trip on Sunday, so she drove up from Eugene a day early to catch the festival on her Birthday! It was great to see her again!

Our concert was not until 5:15 that evening so we had PLENTY of time to relax. It was really good to spend some time getting to know Steve a little better. We've been pretty busy and haven't had much "down time" to just chat.

There were eleven different groups who performed on two stages throughout the day, including African Gospel Acappella.

African Acappella sings at Spirit on the Mountain

From their website: "African Gospel Acappella is comprised of six men from the African country of Liberia. They represent five different tribes and sing in several native African languages, and in English (English is the official language of Liberia). All six men are blind. They have survived a civil war, poverty and many other hardships. The group met many years ago while attending the School for the Blind in Monrovia, Liberia's capitol city.

"After the civil war started, all of the men were scattered for a time. Then, in 1992, they regrouped as the "Inspirational Echoes of the Blind." Through song and testimony, they ministered and evangelized throughout the city of Monrovia and beyond.

"In 1998, all six men came to America and toured forty-six states as the 'Liberian Acapella Choir.' Through their ministry efforts, many orphans in Liberia benefited by receiving food and care.

"In September of last year, the group formed the new ministry of African Gospel Acappella. They continue to direct their energy to singing the good news of Jesus Christ, and they are helping the disabled in Africa."

They were a very inspirational group to listen to. They were so full of joy and had such boldness aas they proclaimed the Gospel. I also loved it when they brought out the djembe drums and two of them started playing.

We had an incredibly good time during our concert, such a warm reception. We got to meet so many great people after the concert, and had the opportunity to talk to a lot of the musicians that had been performing throughout the day.

The best part is that we heard that throughout the day a total of four people gave their hearts to Jesus!!!! PRAISE GOD!!!

We are very excited at the possibility of going back next year!

It was aesome to hear you guys sing live, it was awesome, I love acapella.
Not sure if you remember us :-) being as you guys meet tons of people...it'd be hard to remember specific people, but before you guys went on stage the 2nd time myself and my fiance Allissa came back and chatted with you guys for a bit. We also stopped by after you went off stage to wish you a farewell as we went home. :-) I am looking forward to seeing you guys again in concert or wherever :-D

Thanks so much for your kind words, Dan. I totally remember you two! If I remember right, Allissa has listened to us for a while and she was introducing you to us. It sure turned out to be a beautiful day considering the forcast of rain! We had such a blast!

Hope to see you both again, soon!
